St Botolph’s, Colchester
A new cultural quarter
Mixed-use development in the St Botolph’s area of Colchester creates a dynamic inner-city district to complement the Vinoly Visual Arts Facility.
Colchester has a rich history, with ancient sites including St Botolph’s Priory and the extensive remains of the city’s Roman Wall. FLACQ’s response is a design that utilizes local materials and extends the urban grain.
The development includes 130 residential units, shops, bars, cafes, arts studios, a boutique hotel and a new public open space.
The environmental strategy maximizes daylight and uses recycled and local materials. Solar collectors on the south facing roofs are combined with a bio-fuels energy centre.
