High density mixed use scheme

FLACQ was shortlisted to design a high density mixed use scheme adjacent to Derriford Hospital on the Western Gateway to Plymouth. Existing surface car parks serving the hospital would give way to a new residential neighbourhood of around 800 homes of mixed tenure.

These phased urban blocks stepping towards the southerly slopes into Plymouth are planned around a public open space. This offers recreational and civic uses fronted by a food store, health care facilities and small businesses while retaining decked parking for the hospital. A relocation of a major bus terminal was key to redefining a transport node and focus for the community and hospital.
