Central Promenade, Morecambe
Making a place
FLACQ’s scheme for the Central Promenade site provides a setting for the restored 1930’s Midland Hotel and spearheads Morecambe’s regeneration.
A phased mixed-use scheme connected by a boardwalk creates a new vibrant heart to Morecambe. Fingers of development spring from a new public open space offering a clear organisational hierarchy, shelter from the elements and improved connections between the town centre and seafront.
Phasing allows a flexible approach, particularly important given the uncertainties in the local commercial market, but seeks to make a ‘Place’ during the first period of the four building phases. The provision of hotel accommodation, private housing and a ring of retail and leisure activities is designed to cross-subsidise significant and lasting public realm improvements for a wide range of user groups.
This project is being developed in close consultation with Lancaster City Council.
