Eveline Lowe Primary School
Remodelling a listed school building
FLACQ were short listed in the RIBA competition to remodel Eveline Lowe Primary School in Southwark.
An innovative, robust and environmentally sustainable solution retains the essence of the existing Grade II listed building while providing new teaching accommodation to meet current high standards of lighting, ventilation and environmental design.
In order to apply a light touch to the modification of the listed structure, and to minimise construction time and disruption to the existing school, early consideration was given to modern methods of construction.
Classroom units are fabricated off-site and transported as flat pack assemblies to be quickly erected with service provisions, finishes and external cladding already incorporated.
Newly formed outside spaces include timber structures, benching, an amphitheatre and a tranquil ecological garden to create a variety of external learning zones within close proximity to the classrooms.
