A new icon for Oxford Street

The Crown Estate called for a new Oxford Street Icon to provide WCs, Baby Changing Facilities, Information Booth, and Souvenir Kiosk.

Sited between House of Fraser and John Lewis, the proposed structure seeks to maintain views to and from existing shop frontages whilst offering a strong street presence.

FLACQ proposed a modular, flexible and environmentally responsive design which can be adapted to suit a number of different sites along Oxford Street. A ‘carpet’, a roof and the ‘inbetween’ are designed as modular building components, manufactured off site, inserted and fixed into position with little disruption to the site.

Careful consideration was given to the layout and circulation of the WC spaces, signage and wayfinding to ensure privacy and security.
